Accomodation on Fraser Island

There are three ways you can see Fraser Island: A day trip, stay in a resort, or camping. Day trips to the island are for those who must see it, but due to its size, is is really only a taste of what to see. The other options are camping or one of the two resorts on the island. We recommend a safari resort option..

Resort Safaris - the eco friendly way

Like all great places in the natrul world, so come the many. Over the years the actions of over camping to to speak are starting to impact on the delicate environment. This leave the resorts and there is good news for travellers. You can now buy packages covering two to three days on the island where you are driven to all of the exciting places by day, but enjoy the comfort of a shower and comfy bed at dusk. The pricing matches the camping option, but removes all of the grief assocaited with roughing it! But most importantly, this helps preserve the natrul surroundings on the island itself, in our opinion a win-win for you and the island. This site recommends Gibren Expiditions and Bushwacker Eco-tours. who have long history associated with the Island and offer well priced resort based safaris of the island.

Camping was once the only way to see Fraser, but due to its popularity, it has begun to have a heavy impact on the natural envioronment. For this reason this site recommends using the a resort, where washing, eating and sleeping can be done in a controlled and eco freindly manner, and is far more comfortable for you.

Camping

Camping has long been the choice of many a visitor both local and international, but is not without its inconveniences. For the international traveller or backpacker, camping can be challanging using the various self-drive camping safari options available. The erection of tents, living and eating areas are time consuming and can be testing for the uninitiated.
Bush fire are a serious concern in Australia, so unfortunately you cannot build fires on many parts of the Island. To do so attracts severe pernalties from Rangers and Police who patrol the island, and will order you off the island if you are found lighting fires. Claiming to be foriegn and not understaning wont cut it, as the boys have heard it all before, so you have been warned - no fires! Parks and camping information for the island can be found here.
One must also be aware of the wild life including dingos, snakes, crocodiles and certain marine creatures. Details on safe beach practise can be found here. We dont recommend camping anymore as it is no longer cost effective or eco-friendly.
